Harnas Wildlife Foundation
Harhas Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Namibia, Africa committed to care for, rehabilitate and return injured, orphaned or abandoned animals. Harnas heavily relies on its volunteer program for financial and labor support, however, its current website cannot serve the purpose of providing potential volunteers an overview of the organization and enough information for an efficient and enjoyable application experience.
In order to address this problem, I redesigned and rebranded the website under stakeholder’s feedback to help users gain an overview of Harnas as well as boost up their efficiency in finding needed information.

Background Story
As an animal lover, I have always been involved in animal protection activities. In 2019 Winter, I volunteered at Harnas as an animal caretaker for 1 month. This is a life-changing experience, however, I noticed the shortcomings of Harnas’s website during the volunteer application process. After I came back, I connected with the organization and proposed to redesign their website.

Problem Statement
Potential volunteers need a more efficient way to gain an overview of the organization and find enough information to get their questions answered and concerns resolved about the volunteer program.
Currently, the information is either unavailable or hard to find online. Therefore, each individual asks questions directly to Harnas Office via email and it usually takes more than 1 month for an answer, which causes extreme user frustration and confusion.
Research
Step 1 : Understand Context (Business & Tech)
Step 2 : Understand Users
“There are 3 ways to help: Volunteer, Visit, Donate. However, Harnas relies on Volunteers the most as they provide both financial and labor help.” - Siff
Therefore, the main target audience for Harnas Website is “Volunteers”
I then conducted 5 qualitative Interviews on past and potential volunteers to learn more about their application experience.
Key Takeaways:
Users are very interested in Africa, but they need enough info about it.
Users’ current application process: Tiring, lots of emails, wait time too long, uncertain.
Users’ main concerns while applying/preparation: application timeline and tons of details about the program specifics.
Users search for other volunteers’ stories and learn from it.
